Artist Purple Faye Moving back into Pontefract Studio

If you missed my newsletter earlier this this month then you may have missed my exciting news. ( You can sign up to get my monthly newsletter here)

I’m pleased to say that I’m going to be moving back into the first floor office space in Pearl Assurance House in Pontefract (above the Wetherspoons). I’m hoping to be moving in at the beginning of October and then I’ll be able to stay on a month by month basis as the space is still on the market so I get a month’s notice when I need to move out.

Fingers crossed I’ll be able to stay there until Christmas at least but we’ll just have to wait and see.

This will be the 3rd time I’ve been able to use this space, the first time I was in one of the smaller rooms (which you can read about here) and the second time I was able to use the big room but unfortunately I was only there for a few months (which you can read about here).

Both times I just used the space as a studio that people were able to come visit when I held open days or if they made an appointment. I also did workshops there too which were again by appointment only.

This time however I’m wanting to use the space more like the time when I had the use of an empty shop in Castleford (which you can read about here) but on a bigger scale with lots of other artists and makers work on display there for sale too alongside mine.

I’ll still use it as a studio to make new work and to display my work in, so people can pop in to see what I’m working on and how I make my 3D acrylic paintings, they can also commission me to make them their very own 3D acrylic painting and to do workshops with me to make their own 3D pictures.

The plan is for it to be more like a gallery/arts and crafts shop open to the public so they can buy directly from me and all the other artists/makers work that will be there too, I’m also hoping to put on some special one off events and offers in the run up to Christmas (if I’m still able to use the space then) to try and encourage footfall. As it’s on the first floor and there aren’t any ramps or lifts it isn’t ideal for accessability so I’m going to try and do my best to overcome these somehow.

At the moment (Thursday 19th September 2019) I’m waiting to get the keys and start moving in. Then I can contact artists/makers to invite them to join me.

If you are (and/or know) an artist/maker that would like to have your work on display for sale in this space then please get in touch purplefaye.co.uk/contact  (all arts and crafts are welcome).

(These photos are from when I was there last time)

I’ll let you know once I get the keys and all systems are go.

Till next time.

Take care.

*EDIT*

Sadly this fell through after some issues with getting the keys and then being told that the landlord had sold the property to someone else again.

Bye Bye Big Studio in Pontefract

On Friday the 13th October 2017 I gave the keys back to my big studio in Pontefract Pearl Assurance House.

20170209_110057

I only got the keys on Friday the 10th of June 2017 but unfortunatley the lease was only on a monthly basis and the Landlord had given us notice. (He’s sold the space to someone else to use as a gymn, even though there’s already a gymn on the floor above, but there we go.)

I moved out of the smaller room there in Februrary 2017, which you can read about here, and I was enjoying being back. Especially as I had so much room this time.

One of the first things I did on moving in was remove most of the green and pink covers off the lights, this was a more fiddly job than I thought it was going to be but was worth doing. It made the space look brighter and made it easier to see my work at the correct colour.

I was quite busy doing events elsewhere during the short time that I had this studio, Holmfirth ArtweekArtist Demo for Wakefield Art Club and Wakefield Artwalk and the Exhibition at the Theatre Royal Wakefield (read about each by clicking the highlighted titles)

You can also see videos of these on my youtube channel here.

So this meant that for a lot of the time I was moving things in and out as I needed to, it still took a couple of days to get packed up and moved out by the key hand in day though.

I would like to say a big thank you to Axisweb for giving me the opportunity to be there, even for the short time I was, and even though I’m not actively looking for a new studio at the moment if something does become available I would consider it. Even another short lease because that usually means that it’s cheaper than something more perminant.

For the time being I’m back in the spare bedroom at home, which needs a bit more organisation as it’s a much much smaller space but I was still using it as a studio to do bits at home at the same time as having the bigger space in Pontefract anyway, so I know I can make it work.

I’ll let you know if I decide to move into another studio space.

Till then,

Take care.

Moving out of my Pontefract Studio

Sadly I’ve now moved out of my studio in Pontefract (you can the read the blog post about when I moved in here). I say sadly because I can’t help getting sad when things like this come to an end, but I’m still excited and feeling positve about moving on and making my new studio at home work for me.

The plan is to make it better than before and will meet my current needs even better than my studio in Pontefract did. Not to mention the saving on the cost of rent too.

I still have my work in The Picture Box Gallery in Wakefield (14 Northgate, WF1 3AA near the bullring and Trinity Walk Open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm)  which has helped with the decrease in space I now have to store my work. It also means that there is still a physical place where people can go to see and buy my work in person too.

Here are some pictures showing the taking down, packing up and moving out process, once I get my new home studio sorted out I’ll show you how that’s looking too.

If you follow me on social media there’ll be pics of how it’s progressing.

Here’s a final video I shot having one last look round once it was empty, just before I shut the door and left my studio for the very last time.

Don’t worry this is not the end, just the beginning of the next chapter.

Till next time,

Take care.
